Charging power

Some electric cars charge faster than others. The charging speed depends primarily on the vehicle’s built-in charger.

Naturally, you will be able to charge your 3.7 kilowatt electric car at any more powerful station. However, this will happen with a maximum power of 3.7 kW.

If the charging capacity of your electric car is more, then it would be best to go for the more powerful charging stations. They will get the job done as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

However, if your car’s charging capacity is 3.7 kW, there is no need to invest in a charging station with a charging power of 22 kW.

After all, you won’t be able to use the full capacity of your new acquisition at all. This will only add unnecessary burden to your expenses.

Connector type

Although there are different types of charging connector, two are the most common in Europe. These are known as connector type 1 and connector type 2.

Connectors of the first type are single-phase. This allows them to reach a charging power of 7.4 kW. This type of connector is used in Asia and is therefore less common in Europe.

However, connectors of the second type are significantly more popular on the continent, since Europe is their main distribution area.

They are three-phase and reaching a charging power of 22 kW is not a problem for them. At the same time, some public charging stations can provide you with even 43 kW of charging power.

In most cases, public charging stations are equipped with a contact of the second type. With it you can connect most standard cables with a type 2 connector.

As you can guess, if your electric vehicle is charged using the second type connector, there is no way to power the vehicle with the first type connector.

In practice, this can happen, but with the help of special attachments, which are unnecessarily expensive.
